Bont is a
family company based in Sydney, Australia. Before the business was
established in 1975, Inze and Sara Bont were ice speed skaters. The limitations
of their equipment lead Inze to fibreglass the
ankle area of his old leather boots. The added support gave
increased performance which didn't go unnoticed for long. Soon, his
friends wanted him to fibreglass their boots and Bont Skates was born.
Since that time, Bont Skates has grown to be the Worlds largest producer
of hand made speed skates and boasts more roller world championship gold
medals than any other manufacturer, as well as gold, silver, and bronze
at Olympic Games.
Bont skates is the world leader in skate technology. It was the first to
introduce materials such as Kevlar, carbon fibre, Velcro, neoprene, heat
mouldable thermoplastics, and moulding socks for custom made boots in
the 1980’s and 1990’s.
In 1996, Alexander Bont joined his parents company. The combination of
his skating and cycling background with his degrees in IT and Marketing
helped the company expand into new areas such as ice blades, inline
wheels, bearings, inline frames, street shoes and now bike shoes. In
2002, Alexander’s sister Rebecca Bont joined the company bringing her
expertise as a fashion designer to the mix. Bont Clothing is now sold in
over 320 stores across Australia.
Mr. Bont's one piece construction method that he developed in 1975 and
has since pioneered, is still the basis of all our modern construction
techniques for skates and cycle shoes. Mr. and Mrs. Bont are still
active in the company with Mr. Bont heading up the R&D team and Mrs.
Bont training employees in the office.
